BacoLaodiat: Family, friendship, fun

CELEBRATING the 2017 Chinese New Year brought sundry and spectacular scenes in Bacolod. BacoLaodiat is the event that brings out the best among the Chinoys in Negros, working as one in their many fields of expertise and endeavor. Thus, annually, the BacoLaodiat gets better and better.

As Chinese New Year is the time for family, and reunions, there was an abundance of get-togethers. Homecomings were aplenty. Fun over food and friendship dominates the air.

Families or groups of friends would troop to the Chop Sticks Alley to experience the dances and the parades. The Chinese New Year fireworks, which by far is the best in the province, never fails to generate awe!

They say it will be a great year! The Red Fire Rooster is the epitome of fidelity and punctuality. For ancestors who had no alarm clocks, the crowing was significant, as it could awaken people to get up and start to work. In Chinese culture, another symbolic meaning of the chicken is exorcising evil spirits.

Year 2017 will be successful for people of action. If you are used to acting first, and then thinking, if thoughtfulness drives you into a deep melancholy and dynamic action gives you strength, then the Red Fire Rooster will appeal to you.

Initiative, industriousness, generosity, and honesty are the key positive features of this time period. Fanaticism, egocentrism, and coarseness – these are the weaknesses which you should rid yourself of.
