Tonyboy to support Rodney for governor

ANTONIO "Tonyboy" Floirendo Jr. is officially giving his support to the candidacy of the son of incumbent Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario who will be running for governor come 2016 elections.

Floirendo, chairman of the Anflo Management and Investment Corporation, met with Governor del Rosario Monday afternoon to express his support to the candidacy of Rodolfo "Rodney" del Rosario Jr.

Floirendo's mother, Dona Nenita, is the sister of Governor del Rosario. But in the past years, the Floirendos had a falling out with the del Rosarios.

Monday's meeting could be an indication that the two families have already reconciled.

In the last Palarong Pambansa held in Davao del Norte, the Floirendos also supported the Provincial Government, as it was one of the major sponsors of the said sporting event.

Floirendo said that he gave assurance to the del Rosarios that the second congressional district of Davao del Norte would be supporting Rodney's candidacy.

The second district is a known bailiwick of the Floirendos whose banana plantation, the Tagum Development Corporation, is situated.

This is the first time for Rodney to be seeking a public position.

Rodney's brother, Anthony del Rosario, is the incumbent congressman of the first district and is seeking reelection, while Governor del Rosario is rumored to be eyeing the mayoralty seat of the Island Garden City of Samal.

Incumbent second district Representative Anton Floirendo Lagdameo is on his last term and will be replaced by Tonyboy Floirendo, who served as congressman from 1998-2007.
