Impressing the Universe

FIRST impressions always last. Fortunately, Cebu made a great impression on its beautiful guests who flew in from different countries last Jan. 17. As this year’s Miss Universe candidates represented their own culture and heritage with grace and spice during the swimwear fashion show, the Queen City of the South took its turn soon after and showed off, with flying colors, its interesting tropical style. It’s not every day that representatives from different states fly in to witness a city’s fashion statement.

After 86 Miss Universe hopefuls strutted their one-piece swimsuits down the runway at Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark Cebu, a gala fashion show was held featuring Models Association of Cebu’s (MAC) top models wearing the resort collection of Cebu’s internationally acclaimed fashion designers.

The Miss Universe queens who sat as part of the audience of the gala fashion show never missed a beat and witnessed every beautiful design and clapped their hands to their hearts’ content having been pleased by all the creativity that Cebuanos could offer.

Among those featured were designs by Philipp Tampus, OJ Hofer, Arcy Gayatin, William Manahan, Mel Maria, Wendell Quisido, Yvonne Quisumbing, Harley Ruedas, Marichu Tan, Cary Santiago, Dino Lloren, Ren Manabat, Philip Rodriguez, Ditas Rodriguez and Mia Arcenas.

Quisido showed off his sparkly beach wear with long flowy skirts which is every girl’s dream. Tampus enamored the crowd with his white yet glamorous Egyptian inspired gowns and pantsuit perfect for a bright sunny day. Quisumbing showed off with her black and simple yet elegant designs for both men and women. Ruedas showed off his flowery and bright flowy gowns. Hofer offered his take on young, sexy and hip beach resort designs.

All in all, the fashion show featured resort festive attires that popped with bright colors and set the mood with long gowns; flowery, elegant and classy.

The fashion show was hosted by Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup-Lee. With the 65th Miss Universe Gala fashion show, the impression was definitely made and 86 beauty queens will fly back to their own countries with a lasting memory.
