87-year-old woman loses P200,000, jewelry to swindlers

AN 87-year-old woman from Talisay City, Negros Occidental lost an estimated P200,000 worth of cash and jewelry to five unidentified persons on Wednesday, February 1.

The name of the victim was withheld by the police.

Investigation showed the elderly woman was on her way home from church when one of the perpetrators approached her and introduced himself as her nephew from London.

The man borrowed from her P60,000 and brought her to a bank in Bacolod City to withdraw the amount.

After their conversation, the robbers gave her a bag allegedly containing P150,000 as payment. They left the victim, who saw only bundles of papers inside the bag.

In total, the swindlers took from the victim jewelries amounting to P90,000, P100,000 worth of cash, and $1,000.

Police already secured a copy of the closed circuit television

camera footages from establishments in both cities where the perpetrators went. These showed a black Hyundai Starex used by the swindlers.

Investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Talisay Elementary School in Barangay Zone 12, Talisay City, lost three electric fans amounting to P3,400 to robbers on Thursday, February 2.

A teacher discovered around 8:30 a.m. that unidentified men entered one of the classrooms by cutting the cyclone wire and detaching the jalousies.
