Padilla: Patrons give life and glitter to Kafagway sports and SNPB awards rites

THROUGH the years, a core of patron and friends give life and glitter to the NCCB Kafagway Sports and Silahis ng Pasko sa Baguio awards and recognition day program honoring the city’s and our region’s most outstanding international athletes and sportsmen as well as the leadership and valued participation of civic-minded individuals and organizations in our annual Christmas Season celebration.

This love month, the NCCB-CSWDO awards rite is set on February 11, at the Silungan Center. The curtains go up at 9:00 in the morning. City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, the project’s No. 1 patron has been invited as the guest of honor and speaker. Joining us are award presenters Vice Mayor Edison Bilog, Councilors Lilian Fariñas, Faustino Olowan and Benny Bomogao and BARP president-CEO Prof. Federico Balanag. We are more than happy to welcome back the Filipino-Japanese Foundation of Northern Luzon, Inc. As a major award presenter, courtesy of its Executive Director’s Arnel Cabanisas.

As announced earlier, ONE lightweight world champion Eduard “the landslide” Folayang, UC Wushu golden girl Divine Wally and Team Philippines senior citizen consistent athletics medallist Erlinda Lavandia head the Roll of Honor. The other top awardees are car racing ace Carlos Anton and his son Iñigo, UB’s chess GM-elect Haridas Pascua and his father – Coach Gilbert and Team Lakay founder Mark Sangiao.

Mayor Domogan and Bishop Carlito Cenzon, BBEAL Commissioner Lt. Col. Ryan Calino of PMA, UC Athletic Director Danilo Cong-o and UB Athletic Director Alan Eligado are also at the fore.

The players of the year 2016 honorees are Kareel Meer Hongitan for archery; Christabel Martes, Masters division trackster; Reynold Domalsin, bodybuilding; Sandi Abatan and Marcelo Bautista, ultra-marathon; UB Bea Mendoza, chess (G); UB Josh Buenaventura, trackster; Douglas Puckeet, golf; Jayson Baucas, wrestling and Jover Jorda, boxing. Mediamen Harley Palangchao of the Baguio Midland Courier, Roderick Osis of SunStar Baguio and sportswriter-promoter Pigeon Lobien are also awardees.

On the other hand, the cast of awardees of Silahis ng Pasko 2016 are DOT-CAR, Philippine Military Academy, AFP; PHASES Learning Center; Baguio City National High School performing art class led by Dr. Lolita Manzano, SLU SVP Housing Cooperative headed by Judge Emeterio Manantan; Baguio Entrepreneurs Market Multipurpose Cooperative, Benguet Electric Company; veteran US Navyman Angel Villalarvo; Baguio Balikbayan couple Bonnie and Jossie Delinila; Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center; business leaders Wilbur Tan, Tessie Romero and Sonny del Rosario.

From the government sector are Councilor Fariñas, GSO Officer Romeo Concio, City Tourism Officer Benny Alhambra and his staffer Gabby Keith and PIO Officer Aileen Refuerzo. From the media abruption are the Baguio Midland Courier, SunStar Baguio, Baguio Chronicle, Radio Station DZWT 54.0 and Bombo Radio Philippines, Baguio. Individual media practitioners who managed or contributed to the successful conduct of the Baguio Lucky Foreign Visitors ’16 international tourism promotion program in the city led by Romy Gonzales and Tom Picaña will also receive tokens of appreciation. The groups are PIA’s Joseph Zembra, Zaldy Camada of Manila Bulletin and Balita, Dobie de Guzman, anchorman of ABS CBN TV Patrol Northern Luzon, Mau Victa of Business Today, and Edong Carta, president of the Cordillera Broadcasters Alliance (CBA). Special awardees are Engr. Mrs. Romeo Aquino and Novelon of Legacy Crown Hotel, home away from home for the lucky South Korean students for at least four wonderful days.

A mabuhay victory salo-salo hosted by the CSWDO, NCCB, Beneco and Councilor Fariñas will be held after the award and recognition program at the Silungan Center Social Hall.
