Dayanara Torres recalls romance with Aga Muhlach

MISS Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres admitted she was "hurt" when she broke up with Filipino actor Aga Muhlach almost 20 years ago.

In a recent guest appearance of the Puerto Rican beauty queen in ANC's "Headstart" hosted by broadcast journalist Karen Davila, Torres shared she had "great memories" with Muhlach.

But, she later on admitted that when they decided to end their five year romance, she wanted to pack her bags and leave the Philippines.

"It wasn’t a terrible break-up, but I do remember being hurt and wanted to go. I wanted to pack my stuff, but it was the way it was supposed to be," she said.

Torres added that she haven't seen Muhlach in a long time, as "our paths moved in different ways," but she's open to doing a movie with the actor.

"I've said it before, 'Basta't Kasama Kita' is such a classic. [Doing a movie with Aga] that would be great."

Torres and Muhlach started dating in 1994, when the former came to the country to crown her successor, Miss India Sushmita Sen, in the Miss Universe pageant.

The former couple broke up in 1998 and she returned back to Puerto Rico while Muhlach later on met and married 1994 Miss Universe-Philippines Charlene Gonzales, with whom he has two children.

The Puerto Rican beauty, on her part, started a career on show business in her country. Two years later, she made headlines when she married American singer Marc Anthony.

Torres and March Anthony have two children but divorced in 2004.

The former beauty queen said it was also a painful end of a good partnership and she experienced the ugly side of divorce.

It then pushed her to co-author a book with her sister entitled "Married to Me: How Committing to Myself Led to Triumph After Divorce" to help navigate those who went through traumatic life experiences.

Torres said she came out of that dark moment with the help of her children.

"To me, thankfully, the kids were there because I just had to focus on what they will see later on, what they will learn. I just wanted to be that kind of person so that they can continue and admire. I did not want to be hateful... that's not me."

Torres and Marc Anthony are now divorced for 12 years. (SunStar Philippines)
