Cop nabbed in Mati City drug bust dismissed

A POLICEMAN was relieved from service after he was caught by the city police and Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) with two other suspects in a drug bust in Mati City last month.

Facing criminal charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 is Police Officer 1 Kenneth Gervir Casane, who was assigned at the Mati City Police Station.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao spokesperson Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna said Casane and two other suspects Ricky Masisay and Jomairah Espina were brought to Mati Prosecutor’s Office last January 23 for inquest proceedings.

Casane is also facing two administrative charges for being absent without leave (Awol) and for grave misconduct and will have to appear at a summary hearing in Mati City next week, dela Cerna said.

Casane was allegedly accompanied by Masisay and Espina when they were selling illegal drugs to a poseur buyer. The three were then arrested by authorities at Camansi in Barangay Badas last January 21.

Recovered from the three suspects were small sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu,” drug paraphernalia and marked money.

PRO-Davao director Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan ordered the recall of the Casane’s service firearm, identification card and badge. (ICT)
