ABL team hold basketball clinic

A TOTAL of 47 participants joined the basketball clinic spearheaded by the Alab Pilipinas in partnership with the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO) and City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac) Saturday morning at the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) covered court.

Alab Pilipinas coaches Ronald "Mac" Cuan and John Paul Cuan and their players taught the children basic drills and fundamentals of the sport as part of the team’s mission to provide community service.

The participants, mostly drug-surrenderees, children in conflict with the law (CICL) and adopted children of Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, enjoyed learning from the ABL stars who taught them proper warm-up and posture, defense and offense.

Cuan told the children that discipline is the first key to their success.

Alab point guard Jens Dieter Knuttel, in his message to the participants, said "Mura lang kog kamo sauna, parehas ta gusto mag basketball, pero dapat gyud ta naay disiplina (I was just like you before, we all wanted to play basketball but we all need discipline) to reach our goals and never stop chasing your dreams."

Johm Bryan Bajado, Cadac program coordinator, said Alab Pilipinas offered to conduct a basketball clinic through SDD-CMO under officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera, thus, the idea to select drug reformists and CICL came about.

"If may clinic para sa community, naisip namin na why not for the reformist? It will be a great activity for them to be inspired," Bajado said.

The participants were provided with a meal after the clinic courtesy of SDD-CMO and Cadac. (ABM)
