MANGALDAN, Pangasinan -- Local authorities arrested two women on Saturday in Barangay Anolid here for enticing three people to join an organization that promises to give members a share of the wealth of the late former President Ferdinand Marcos.
Brought to the headquarters of the Mangaldan Police Station were Erlinda Mendaros, 69, of Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City; and Linda Cacho, 57, coordinator of the Bullion Buyer Ltd. which is allegedly promising to members P10,000 monthly as their alleged share from the Marcos wealth.
Three victims of the syndicate, namely Letecia de Guzman, 26; Arlyn Bonaobra, 28 yrs old, married; and Norma Ravino y Bianan, 55, all residents of Barangay Anolid went to the Mangaldan police, accompanied by their Barangay Chairman Albert Bianan, to file a complaint against Mendaros and Cacho.
There were other housewives who were enticed by the suspects to join the organization not only in Mangaldan town and Dagupan City but also Binmaley town.
The victims said they paid PHP30 as membership fee and were given a pamphlet containing the late president's biography.
The suspects also instructed their victims to accomplish their respective marriage contracts issued by the National Statistics Authority, two identification cards as supposed proofs of their membership.
In the Bullion Buyer LTD and were asked to give their Bank ATM (Automated Teller Machine) cards and promised that they will receive PHP10,000 monthly from the supposed Marcos wealth.
Suspecting that the activity is a scam, the barangay chairman of Anolid promptly arrested the two suspects, who are now in custody of Mangaldan Police Station while the case against them for swindling is now being prepared.
Swindling raps are set to be filed against the suspects at the Dagupan City Prosecutor's Office on Monday. (PNA)
