PAGADIAN CITY -- The Pagadian City Government has allocated P5-million worth of financial assistance to the thousands of fire victims in two coastal villages of the city.
Pagadian City Mayor Romeo Pulmones said the allocation, which was authorized by the City Council through a resolution approved in a session on June 2, will be spent for food and other basic needs of the fire victims.
Pulmones said that, based on the list of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), there were more than 2,000 families that were affected and some P20-million worth of properties were destroyed during the fire.
The fire victims are temporarily housed at the Pagadian City’s gymnasium, Plaza Luz’ covered court, Kawit village covered court, and San Pedro Elementary School.
Meanwhile, the City Government of Zamboanga is also providing assistance to the fire victims in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.
Councilor Juan Climaco Elago II said they have adopted a resolution authorizing Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar to set aside funds to give cash assistance to the Pagadian City’s fire victims.
Elago, who authored the resolution, said Thursday they also encouraged the residents of this city to donate in cash or in kinds for the fire victims.
Elago said the donation can be course through the City Council.
He said they will travel to Pagadian City on June 12 to turn over the donations and other assistance to the fire victims through the city government of Pagadian.
