Biantan: Oro United FC-Rosevale rules 14U tilt in Davao

THERE’s no stopping Cagayan de Oro’s (CDO’s) young footballer Lyle Dy as he once again led the Rosevale School-manned Cagayan de Oro United FC in another title finish—this time around in Davao City.

Dy scored the winning goal from a corner kick of Ino Butaslac with 35 seconds to go to seal the victory for the wards of coach Mario Sumampong in the Boys 14 category of the 8th Sakya Fil-Chi Football Festival held at Tionko Field in the Durian City of the South.

Lyle, son of Engineer Charles and Menchu Dy, led the team’s sweeping finish in the elims, piling off wins over Davao Hayenas, 2-0; New Bataan, 8-0; Crocs FC, 1-0; Ateneo de Davao team C, 5-0 and MCI, 5-0.

They topped their group with five wins and one draw. Ateneo de Davao team A recorded a scoreless draw against them.

They advanced to the finals against Ateneo de Davao team A when they whipped Ateneo de Davao team B, 4-2, in the crossover round.

The winning goal was Lyle’s 11th in the tournament. It was the 10th Most Valuable Player award in the young footballer’s career.

Lyle is still fresh from winning two MVP awards in the Rosevale Cup football festival in the city last month.

Other members of the CDO United team were John Gementiza, Ino Butaslac, Ranza Arada, and Dave Mendoza of Rosevale School. Completing their line-up were Andrie Tagle of Xavier University High School and Zach Orate of Malaybalay.

Members of the CDO United squad were the key players of the Northern Mindanao elementary division team which represented the region to the Palarong Pambansa last year in Bicol.
