‘Dismiss Mary Ann from DOJ’

FORMER Provincial Board member Grecilda Zaballero filed a string of criminal complaints against Prosecutor Mary Ann Castro before the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Zaballero wants Castro dismissed from service for alleged abuse of authority, misconduct, immorality, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service in the performance of her duty as a public prosecutor.

“Castro had already been notoriously undesirable as a public prosecutor because of her involvement in several controversies in the City of Cebu as public prosecutor,” said Zaballero in her complaint-affidavit.

Castro’s lawyer, Jonnah John Ungab, said that Zaballero’s complaint was a mere harassment after the prosecutor had annotated some of the properties of Zaballero’s brother, Leodegreco Sanchez.

Castro feels she has the “legal obligations to protect the interest of Greco,” said Ungab.

In her affidavit, Zaballero cited Castro’s six months suspension by the Ombudsman-Visayas for violating the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

She asked the DOJ to declare Castro as unfit to be a member of the prosecution service.
