THE Philippine Hearts Association (PHA) will hold a medical mission in Davao City on Sunday, February 12, as part of the annual Heart Month Celebration that is geared towards increasing the level of awareness to the public on cardiovascular disease (CVD).
PHA-Davao chapter President Arnold Pasia said their organization will conduct series of activities, including the medical mission, at Davao City National High School.
Pasia urged Dabawenyos to participate in the activity, saying they can accommodate 500 to 1,000 patients for free since there would be around 30 cardiologists from different hospitals in the city who will do the free medical checkup.
The medical mission will include fasting blood sugar screening, cholesterol screening, electrocardiogram, bone screening and consultation for both children and adults.
A zumba fitness marathon, poster making contest for High School students, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation training will also be held.
CVD is the top cause of death in the country, the Department of Health said.
Pasia said the risk factors attributed to the rise of CVD are smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, and high cholesterol.
