12,000 athletes, officials in 2017 NIR regional meet

SOME 12,000 student-athletes, coaches, technical officials and delegation heads from 16 school divisions are expected to converge in Dumaguete City during the Palarong Negros Island Region (NIR) 2017 on February 24 to March 1 at Gov. Mariano Perdices Memorial Stadium.

Dubbed “One Island, One DepEd, One Asean,” the week-long event will have contingents from Schools Divisions of Bacolod City, Bago City, Silay City, Sagay City, Cadiz City, Escalante City, San Carlos City, La Carlota City, Kabankalan City, Bais City, Tanjay City, Bayawan City, Dumaguete City, Guilhulngan City, and provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

The competition, serving as the qualifying for NIR’s first representation in the upcoming 2017 Palarong Pambansa in Antique, also aims to develop among the athletes, coaches and officials the true spirit and value of camaraderie, discipline and unity .

It will also select the finest and qualified athletes and competent coaches for the region and showcase the talents of students and coaches in 22 different sports events.

Archery will be held at Merto Archery Range; arnis, Holy Cross High School gym; athletics, Mariano Perdices Stadium; badminton, Riverside Courts; softball and baseball, Rusi Ballfield; boxing, Tinago covered court; Football, Silliman Cimafranca Ballfield, Silliman Ravello Field, Saint Louis School, Don Bosco Ballfield and Foundation University Football Field; gymnastics, taekwondo, wushu and pencak silat, Negros Oriental State University gym; sepak takraw, Villa Amada covered court and Daro covered court; tennis, Praxevilla Tennis Court and Silliman University Tennis Court; futsal, Bacong gymnasium; dancesport, Lamberto Macias Sports Center; Basketball, Macias Sports Center, Silliman gym, SLS-Don Bosco gym and Talay covered court; chess, Negros Oriental Convention Center; table tennis, Negros Oriental Convention Center Exhibition Hall; volleyball, Foundation University Gardens and Valencia gymnasium; billiards, venue to be determined; and special games at the Silliman University Main Quadrangle.
