Mobile registration for Davao City's lumads

THE Davao City Local Civil Registrar (LCR) will stage a mobile civil registration to bring government services closer to lumads as part of the Civil Registry month celebration.

LCR Registration Officer III Shirley Arendain said Tuesday, February 7, lumads find it difficult to travel to the poblacion (town center) to register births, deaths, and marriages.

Arendain said their month-long celebration, with the theme “Pilipinong Rehistrado, ang Kinabukasan ay Sigurado,” aims to have their mobile registration teams be fielded to the far barangays.

As of January this year, there were 3,700 births registered in their office. They have also recorded a slight downtrend in birth registrations from 2015 pegged at 45,500 to 44,020 in 2016.

“We are proud to say that people in remote areas are now aware about the importance of being registered,” she said.

They are aiming for 100 percent registration for all lumads.

They will also hold a mass wedding for lumad couples to legally tie the knot and assist couples with their documents.

There will also be mall tours. Every Tuesday and Thursday, they will set up a satellite office at SM City Davao while on Saturday and Sunday they will be at SM Lanang Premier to attend to inquiries, corrections of birth certificates, and other civil registry documents.
