Ex-Warrior Magat leads Toros to win against Pythons

FORMER University of San Carlos Warriors skipper Nico Magat threw down 23 points on top of 20 rebounds to go along with two blocks to lead the Toros to a 96-89 win over the Pythons in the ongoing elimination round of the Cebu Weekend Basketball Club Tournament last weekend at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Magat’s performance helped the Toros weather the 27 points production of the former UC Webmasters gunner Kim Gomez and the 14 rebounds output of JJ Gesalem.

Former Southwestern Univeristy forward Francis Ortega, meanwhile, dropped his own double-double finish as the Bears outlasted the Dragons, 83-76, in the other game.

The Mantis finally arrested a three-game losing streak as former USC Warrior Dominic Adlawan wreaked havoc with 22 points and 16 rebounds for a thrilling 82-80 win over the Roosters who had Cromwell Lacuna dropping 16 points and 13 rebounds for the losing squad.

In the other results, the Cobras leaned on the 32 points of Artistotle Alcos to score a 67-61 win over the Hogs, the Bulldogs had Ralph Belarmino sinking 29 points and Justin Huang contributing 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals to beat the Scorpions, 77-47.

Ryan Miano scored 35 points to lead the Pandas to a 73-63 win over the Tigers, Michael Cantonao scattered 17 points to lead the Penguins to a 97-71 win over the Gorillas.

And the Mustangs waylaid the unsuspecting Parrots for a one-sided 102-72 beating.

Christian de la Cruz fired 21 points and Jay de la Cruz led the rebounders with 15 carroms, while Michael Barrientos scored the game-high 25 points and Mikhail Villaluz had 15 rebounds for the losing Parrots.
