DOH: Only 127 patients occupy mega rehab facility in Nueva Ecija

WHILE capable of housing up to 10,000 patients, the Mega Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DATRC) in Nueva Ecija now attends to only over 100 former drug users more than two months since it was inaugurated.

In a statement, the Department of Health (DOH) – Central Luzon reported that there are only 127 residents in the Mega DATRC, which was inaugurated last November by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We have 127 residents being catered as in-patients, most of them were from Nueva Ecija and Bulacan,” said the DOH.

It noted how they are currently providing the rehab patients with group-dynamic activities, psycho-educational lectures, and mindfulness meditations.

It was back in late November when the massive drug rehab facility in Nueva Ecija was opened in a bid to house a higher number of patients needing to be treated of drug addiction.

In a related development, the DOH disclosed that they are set to hold the Central Luzon Dangerous Drug Abuse Summit.

It said the summit aims to showcase the best practices and initiatives done in relation to drug rehabilitation and reintegration.

The confab also seeks to initiate an effective alignment of rehab programs and implementation at the grassroots level. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
