THE Mavericks snagged the title of the City Hoops powered by Tough Gear Sportswear last weekend after a closely-contested 54-53 win over University of San Carlos (USC) Elevens at the Visayan Glass Gym in Guadalupe.
The Mavericks ended their campaign on a high note, going unbeaten the whole way.
The Mavericks was once again led by big man Vernon Alfone with 13 points. Michael Sereño and Jax Bautista both chipped in nine points apiece.
Point guard Joel Lee Yu had a huge night for the Elevens with 16 points but his team just fell short by a point at the final buzzer. Third Uy was a huge boost offensively with 13 points, while Dave Guardiario added 10.
The Mavericks was Group B’s top seed with an unbeaten 4-0 slate, while the Elevens finished also at the top of Group A with a 3-1 record.
The Mavericks beat Kamayan PHC in the semi-finals, while the Elevens beat Velez Therapy Alumni for a finals ticket.
