Robredo: LP members to vote on death penalty bill 'by conscience'

THE Liberal Party (LP) will focus on "conscience vote" as far as the controversial death penalty topic is concerned.

This was revealed by Vice President Leni Robredo, who said that LP members are divided on the death penalty bill now pending before the House plenary.

Robredo said that the LP had their strategic planning two weeks ago and one of the main topics discussed was the revival of the death penalty in the country being pushed by President Rodrigo Duterte and his allies.

Robredo said as far as the LP is concerned, there is no unified party stand on the death penalty issue and everything will depend on the conscience of each member.

“Walang fixed na party stand, walang party discipline in case hindi sumunod, mas conscience voting siya. Maraming LP members from the House of Representatives na iyon ang pinu-push. Na gawin siyang conscience vote," Robredo said.

She admitted that some LP members expressed support for the death penalty.

Marami talaga iyong either for or against, iyon ang gagawing party stand. Pero kung hati iyong pakiramdam ng members, conscience vote,” the Vice President said. (SunStar Philippines)
