4 die, 7 wounded in vehicular accidents

FOUR people, including a fireman and a businessman, died while seven others were wounded in two vehicular accidents along the highway in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police said Thursday, February 9.

Zamboanga del Norte police director Senior Superintendent Edwin Buenaventura Wagan said the first accident occurred around 2:54 p.m. Wednesday along the national highway in the village of Banigan, Liloy municipality.

Vincent Bernard Domingo, 26, businessman, Vincent Lumiton, 18, and Fire Officer 1 Raygene Mark Mijares died in the accident. They failed to reach the hospital alive.

Wagan said they were travelling aboard a motorcycle driven by Mijares from the village of Banigan, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte, en route to the town of Siayan in the same province at the time of the incident.

He said Mijares lost control of the motorcycle’s steering bar and crashed into the pavement while traveling at high speed in a curve portion of the highway.

The second accident took place around 7:10 p.m. Wednesday wherein a truck and a motorcycle collided in the village of Guinles, Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Killed in the collision was Sanny Boy Gumilon, 33, the driver of the motorcycle. He did not reach the hospital alive.

Wounded were Zade Ugdal, 34, the truck driver and six of his passengers.

Wagan said the truck was bound to the town of Mutia from Dipolog City when it collided with the motorcycle, which was traveling on the opposite direction. (SunStar Philippines)
