Families affected by landslide incidents ask for affordable socialized housing

THE families affected by several landslide incidents in the mountain barangays are asking the Cebu City Government to provide them affordable socialized housing lots.

Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) Chief Genevieve Alcoseba said the families relayed the matter to her in a consultation meeting with them yesterday.

Close to 80 families in Barangay Sirao and another 11 in Barangay Adlaon will be relocated from their landslide-prone neighborhood.

“At present, we are still in the process of identifying lots that are located in safer zones where the affected families can relocate,” Alcoseba said.

If the City has no existing lots where the families can transfer, Alcoseba said the DWUP can acquire a private lot and distribute it to the families through socialized housing.

She said the families only wanted to avail themselves of the lots due to their limitation to pay.

The families told DWUP that they can only afford to pay a monthly amortization of P500 for their lots.

Alcoseba said the City has no problem with it as long as they will transfer to the safer places.

Alcoseba said families in Adlaon are still staying at the barangay’s daycare center at night while those in Sirao already left their evacuation sites.

Alcoseba said she already advised the families in Sirao of the danger of going back to their houses.
