THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Negros Island Region (NIR) is continuously investigating the alleged sexual harassment of a female inmate involving a jail officer of the BJMP in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental last Monday.
Inspector Mar Louie Salcedo, spokesperson of BJMP-NIR, said the accused jail officer and his colleague have yet to submit their affidavits.
Based on the medical examination, the 23-year-old inmate had a sexual intercourse with the jail officer, but she stated in her affidavit that there was no force or intimidation.
Salcedo said the incident was reported by the inmate’s mother to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, but there was no complaint filed before the police.
“We cannot give comment on the criminal liability of the jail officer since we only handle the administrative offense,” he added.
Last Tuesday, the jail officer and his colleague as well as Inspector Gerald Diano and Senior Jail Officer 4 Benjie Dimasuhid, warden and deputy warden of BJMP-Sipalay, respectively, were relieved from their posts so as not to hamper the conduct of the investigation.
Diano was out when the alleged incident happened while Dimasuhid was on duty.
