Carving his own name

IT'S better to lose money than to lose face – these are words that bind the 28-year-old Chinese businessman who is starting to carve a name in the construction and agriculture industry.

A curious individual, Johann Go, started the world of business at the age of 26. At 28, he is running three different companies namely JLGreentech Trading, JLGreenads Industries Inc. and Green Asia Agri-Ventures.

“I started out at a small scale catering only to LED lights until such time I realized that there is a huge market for importation in the country. Since then, I’ve imported a wide variety of products from electric supplies to continuous positive airway pressure (Cpap pillows). Then I shifted to a service oriented advertising firm, hence, the JLGreenads,” he said in an interview with SunStar Davao.

He strongly believes that diversifying one’s business is the key to open new possibilities and broaden one’s perspectives about life.

A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Sciences Major in Mathematics from the University of Sto. Tomas with honors, Go pursued his earlier years working as a statistical data analyst at SPi Global.

“Right after my graduation, I was offered a job by three companies. I immediately chose the most challenging job among the others,” he said.

He realized that in those years of working, his potential for growth was slow. He challenged himself to work until such time that he started to run his own business.

“Every day, I was doing the same thing over and over again. There was no challenge. I felt empty,” Go shared.

After establishing two companies, Go’s hunger for more led him to establish the Green Asia Agri-Ventures.

“The third company focuses on agricultural green developments. We propagate banana tissue cultures to supply multi-national banana plantations,” he said.

Del Monte Philippines is one of the main clients of his agricultural venture.

In his years of experience in the business, persistence and passion were among the values he learned through the challenges.

Go envisions himself to be one of the leading businessmen in the Philippines within five years.
