6 killed, 4 wounded in drive-by shooting

SIX people were killed while four others, including a child, were wounded in a drive-by gun attack in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Friday, February 10.

Senior Superintendent Romulo Cleve Taboso, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, said that the incident took place around 11 p.m. Thursday along the highway in the village of Cainglet, Kabasalan town.

Taboso identified the fatalities as the following: Emeristo Bastasa, Raymary Tena, Asser Mangan, Delia Pagador, Marisa Bucan, and a certain Calib-og.

Wounded were: Alex Angoon, Agnes Mangan, her eight-year old daughter, Syra, and Ryan Dumalag Francisco.

Investigation showed the victims were having a drinking spree in front of an automobile repair shop when one of two men riding on a motorcycle opened fire as they passed by.

Some of victims had just watched a basketball game at the Kabasalan municipal gymnasium as part of the week-long activities in line with the fiesta of Our Lady of Lourdes on Saturday, February 11.

The suspects also tossed a grenade as they fled from the crime scene.

A police vehicle of the nearby Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay, which is under repair, was also damaged.

The police strongly believed the suspects are members of the Barahama Ali crime group were out to avenge the death and arrest of their companions in the province.

The police said the crime group suspects the victims were the ones that tipped off the authorities that led to the death and arrest of their comrades. (SunStar Philippines)
