PNP: Napenas still entitled to pension, benefits

FORMER Special Action Force (SAF) chief Director Getulio Napenas is still entitled to pension and benefits when he retires from the Philippine National Police (PNP), a police official said Thursday.

Napenas, who has served on the police force for 38 years, will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on July 18.

Espina stressed that there was no was case filed yet against Napenas in connection with his role in the January 25 law enforcement operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao that cost the lives of 44 SAF men.

Espina added that even if Napenas will be charged in court for his liabilities in the bungled law enforcement operation, he would still be allowed to get his benefits as long as he could assure the court that he will not turn his back in the cases to be filed against him.

The Napenas-led Oplan Exodus ended in a tragedy after elite police commandos who were sent to arrest two high value targets in the village of Tukanalipao were engaged in an encounter with Moro rebels.

Napenas is currently in a non-duty status, which he filed after he was relieved from post, Espina said. (Sunnex)
