Flower fest non masters chess tilt set

PRIZES and surprises await the winners in the two-division 36th Non-Master Chess Tournament on March 4-7.

Organized by Baguio Centermall, list up for the event started February 1 and will officially close on March 2 while late registrants may sign up on the event day itself, March 4.

Registration fees for both the open and kiddie division is at P150 while late registrant for the kiddie division is at P250 and P300 for the open division.

Champion in the kiddie division will receive P5,000 plus trophy while 2nd and 3rd placers will receive P3000 and P1500 with trophies respectively.

The 4th and 5th placers will be awarded P1,000 and P800 each while 6th to 10th placers will be given P500 each.

In the open division, the champion, 2nd runner up and 3rd runner up will receive trophies each plus P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000 respectively while the 4th will get P1,000 and 5th placer receive P800.

The 6th to 10th placers will be awarded P500 each.

The top Junior, top senior and top kiddie will be given cash pizes on top of their trophies as special awards. The top nine and under in the kiddie division will also be given cash prizes.

Dubbed as the battle ground for future masters, the annual event had been attracting chess enthusiasts from as far as La Union and Pangasinan.

Organizers are hoping to have more registrants for the event which serves as a training ground for chess players hoping to join higher level competitions.

Teddy Sarmiento, one of the event organizers said the recently concluded 35th BCM Non-Master Chess tournament in December saw an overwhelming the number of participants and hopes this will be replicated during the Panagbenga edition.
