Dureza's nephew nabbed for illegal drugs

PRESIDENTIAL Adviser on Peace Process Secretary Jesus Dureza praised law enforcers for not hesitating to arrest his nephew in a drug bust.

"I slept early last night (still on sick leave but feeling okay) only to wake up early to be informed that one of my nephews was arrested by PDEA for drugs. I am, of course, embarrassed as he is a close relative," Dureza wrote as his Facebook status at around 8 a.m. Friday, February 10.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) staged the drug bust at around 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Catalunan Pequeño village in Talomo District, Davao City.

Arrested were John Paul Villariez Dureza, alias JP, and Jose Anthony Celso Braganza Huilar, residents of Block 4, Lot 6, Residencia Del Rio, Barangay Catalunan Pequeño.

The PDEA-Davao Region received information that methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) was being peddled in the area, thus, when they were able to conduct a test-buy, they returned to arrest the suspects. JP has been in their watchlist for some time now, the PDEA said.

Seized from their possession were packets of suspected shabu that may have a street value of P200,000, a caliber .22 rifle with serial number 178731 and 117 live ammunition. Four other 0.40mm bullets and one 9mm bullet aside from drug paraphernalia and the marked money.

"I commend the authorities for enforcing and applying the law without fear or favor. That's the way this no-nonsense drive of President Duterte should proceed," Dureza said in his post.
