Baguio batters score 12-0 shutout win

THE 2015 runner-up Baguio National School of Arts and Trades opened its bid on a high note after scoring a 12-0 shutout victory over F. Bustamante National High School at the start of the 10th Davao City Baseball Cup held at the Lt. Col. Villafuerte Sr. Elementary School grounds Friday, February 10.

The Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International High School (PNJKIS) and the Calinan National High School (CNHS) also stayed alive after routing their respective rivals in the meet co-presented by the Datu Uchida Development Division, Incorporated, PNJKIS and Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku in cooperation with the Davao City Baseball Association.

PNJKIS, crushed Sta. Maria National High School, 10-1, while CNHS thrashed Pablo Lorenzo National High School, 10-0.

High School defending champion Crossing Bayabas National High School, for its part, breezed through the second round after a win via forfeiture.

In the elementary division, Upper Sirib Elementary School demolished Matina Aplaya Elementary School, 19-12, while Upian Elementary School toppled AFP Logistics Command Elementary School, 195.

Games were still ongoing as of Friday’s presstime in the competition that attracted a total of 36 teams but only 24 advanced to the main tournament while the rest were ousted in the elimination round held February 4.

Semifinals and championship games in both elementary and High School divisions will be held today followed by the awarding ceremonies set at 4 p.m.

Officers and members of major sponsor Tokyo Kichijoji Lions Club, PNJKIS and Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku along with Department of Education Davao City Superintendent Maria Ines Asuncion, Ceso VI.

Cash prizes, trophies and medals and baseball equipment await winners of the tournament.
