SSA-Bacolod ‘golden girls’ get together

FIFTY years ago we parted ways – all in a hurry to grow up and later on wished we stayed a bit longer.

For the next 40 years, we faced the reality of life and its challenges guided by what we learned in St. Scholastica’s Academy (SSA)-Bacolod.

Yes, 13 is our lucky number – 6+7 = 13! In most of our travels we are a group of 13!! Now 50 years later about 80 percent of our class is 67 years old!

In 2005, Joy Ramos started a website in preparation for our Ruby celebration in 2007. We were only in our mid-50’s and techie enough to handle email. We reconnected and found our beloved classmates.

In 2007, we celebrated our Ruby Jubilee with 82 percent were in attendance.

After Ruby, we traveled in group – Bangkok, Singapore, Macau, Hongkong, Japan, United States, Boracay, Baguio, Caba – and we have a home in La Castellana! We always travel color coded – a different color shirt each day. For our golden year, we have seven colors of t-shirts.

Attendance for our Golden event is 92 percent, with 25 percent coming from abroad.

We are still with the times – we have a page in Facebook and we know how to upload pictures! Three years ago, we formed a group in Messenger and with about 30 members. We use the audio function and pray two times a day – at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. to accommodate our classmates living abroad. We pray for one another and especially for our concerns. We have a healing board and a traveling board.

We pray twice a day and argue, quarrel five times a day! And still we are together for always!

We were 41 graduates in 1967. Five have passed away and we now have five new members from our grade school, and high school classmates who did not graduate with us.

This is the story of Class ’67 as written by its president Elaine Torrejon-Dichupa for life.
