Village chief, 4 others injured in shooting

Four persons were injured in separate shooting incidents in Negros Island on February 9.

In Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, village chief Jiovanni Yandog of Barangay Bagroy and his father Faustino Yandog, 71, were injured after they were shot by Flordivico Belo Jr., 40, who was also injured, when one of the victims fired back.

Chief Inspector Anthony Grande, chief of Binalbagan Municipal Police Station, said Belo had a misunderstanding with the village chief’s elder brother Jional that resulted to a commotion around 7:15 a.m. at Crossing Payao.

Belo attempted to shoot Jional, but the latter evaded. Belo instead shot Jiovanni and his father, whom he saw walking. One of the victims also shot him.

The three were brought to a hospital.

Police recovered a magazine, slug, and a spent bullet of .45 caliber pistol.

A complaint for frustrated homicide was filed against Belo while additional charges for attempted homicide and direct assault will be filed against him separately.

In La Carlota City, a field guard-laborer was hurt after he was accidentally hit by his own firearm at Hacienda Adelina, Barangay Cubay.

Police identified the victim as Randy Arroyo, 36, of Barangay Ara-al.

Arroyo was about to go roving when his homemade shotgun fell to the ground and hit him on the chest. He was rushed to a hospital.

In Negros Oriental, a woman was injured after he was shot by her husband inside their house at Sitio Balbastro, Barangay Linothangan in Canlaon City.

Police records showed that Jovelyn Balingcong, 33, just arrived from Bacolod City when a heated argument ensued between her and husband Leonides. It was then followed by a gunfire.

A hot pursuit operation is being conducted for the arrest of the suspect.*
