Philippine Army re-activates engineer brigade

PHILIPPINE Army Chief Lieutenant General Glorioso Miranda re-activated Friday the 54th Engineering Brigade to undertake development projects in support to the government’s peace and order campaign in Zamboanga City.

The re-activation ceremony was held at Camp Arnaldo Fernandez Jr. that houses the brigade in the village of Cabatangan, Zamboanga City.

Miranda also installed Brigadier General Arnold Fernandez as the 54th Engineering Brigade commander.

The re-activated engineer brigade has been classified as major unit and combat support unit of the Philippines Army.

Miranda expressed confidence that Fernandez will not falter in his tasks citing he is an efficient and competent officer

Fernandez has assured that he will do his best efforts to accomplish the tasks given him and his brigade.

Miranda has thanked Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) Governor Mujiv Hataman for allowing them to use a portion of the Armm property in Cabatangan to house the brigade.

Lieutenant Colonel Maynard Camarao, operations officer of the 52nd Engineering Brigade, said that the 54th Engineering Brigade was activated on July 1, 1991.

However, Camarao said the 54th Engineering Brigade was deactivated on July 11, 2013. The brigade was assigned to different areas in the country.

With its re-activation, the 54th Engineering Brigade will be the fourth engineer command of the Philippine Army.

The other three engineer commands are the 51st, 52nd, and 53rd Engineering Brigades.
