Karateka wants to be a doctor

KYZZHIA Navarro joined the Association for the Advancement of Karate (AAK)-Davao through the encouragement of her father.

Kyzzhia, a 12-year-old Grade 5 University of Immaculate Concepcion (UIC) student, was one of the four gold medalists of the recent 2017 Adidas BMP International Karate Championships at the Music Hall, Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Navarro brought home the girls 9 to 11 years old individual kata gold medal and kumite bronze in girls 39-kilogram.

"Gusto po ni papa mag karate kami ng kapatid ko na si Seth para matuto po kami mag self-defense, pero nung pagtagal po nagustuhan ko na rin pong mag karate, (Our dad wants us, my brother Seth and I to learn karate as self-defense but in the long run, I enjoyed karate)" Navarro said during an interview with SunStar Davao during her training at the Beefit Gym in Mt. Apo Street, Davao City.

Her father wanted her to train with AAK-Davao, citing its quality training and the exposures it get for the karatekas.

She will next compete in Kota Kinabalu this year.

In 2016, Navarro finished her SM-Milo Super Karate Kids National Invitational Championships stint on a high note when she captured two golds in different events.

She got her first gold in kata intermediate class and doubled the feat with a kumite gold.

Navarro is also a ballerina, she takes ballet lessons when she does not have karatedo classes.

Navarro, who was recently promoted to purple-belt from blue-belt, aims to also compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but she also dreams of becoming a doctor someday.
