Man jumps from 5th floor to his death

POLICE could not see any foul play in the death of a 20-year-old man who jumped off the fifth floor of a mall along J.P. Laurel Avenue in Davao City yesterday morning.

The victim was identified by authorities as Rheyn Mark S. Tubato, an out-of-school youth and a resident of Kilometer 9, Sto. Nino, Riverside in Barangay Sasa, Davao City.

"Base sa atong inisyal nga imbestigasyon, problema sa family ang hinungdan gumikan complicated ang sakit sa iyang papa (According to our initial investigation, the victim has been worrying about his father's complicated health problems)," Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Chief Inspector Catherine dela Rey said yesterday.

"Gisugo daw to siya'g pagpalit og tambal, apan wala damha sa family nga himuon niya ang pagpakamatay (He had been asked to buy medicine for his father but his family did not expect that he would do such thing)," Dela Rey added.

A few people who were at the mall witnessed the victim jumping off the fifth floor and said that they had goose bumps.

"I was walking at the fourth floor when I saw him jumped. He really intended to do it," Angela, one of those who witnessed the incident, said.

The incident was the fourth time that a person committed suicide by jumping off the same mall since 2013.
