San Simon Liga president shot dead

SAN SIMON – The incumbent president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in this town was shot dead near his residence in Barangay Concepcion Friday morning by two men riding a motorcycle.

Concepcion village chairman Sonny Simbulan, who is also an ex oficio member of the Sangguniang Bayan here, was attacked by the gunmen while he was taking his lunch in a canteen together with a companion identified as Jose Yambao.

Sunstar Pampanga learned that Simbulan lost in last year's mayoralty race.

Police said Simbulan and Yambao were buying food in a canteen when the suspects armed with M16 rifle and caliber .45 fired at the victim.

Simbulan reportedly sustained multiple gunshots on different parts of his body which caused his instant death.

Yambao said the suspects immediately fled to the north direction going to San Luis town after the incident.

Policemen recovered from the crime scene 14 live ammunitions and several Armalite rifle and .45 pistol bullet shells.

Another M16 rifle magazine loaded with 16 ammunition was also recovered from the crime scene.

Police Chief Inspector Charlmar Gundaya, police chief of this town, said that they are still looking into the possible motive of the suspects in killing Simbulan.

“Tinitignan pa namin lahat ng posibleng anggulo sa kaso. Ayaw namin na mamislead kami lalo na at kapitan ang biktima,” he said.

He added that they are not dismissing the angle of politics in the incident since Simbulan is a public official.
