Villocino to race in Subic Ironman

DABAWENYO triathlete Peter Villocino shifts his focus to the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 set on March 12 from Acea Beach to Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC) in Zambales Province.

Villocino, in a Facebook chat with SunStar Davao, said the event will serve as his preparation for the upcoming 2017 Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship where he placed second in the 25 to 29 age category during the last year's edition.

“Naga indoor training ko karon ug naga weights lang ko, naga treadmill sad ko para sa akong stamina (I'm into indoor training and doing weight lifting. I'm also working on my stamina through treadmill),” Villocino who finished 22nd in the Full Ironman Taiwan Race.

The course will cover a 1.9 kilometer swim from Acea Beach across the Acea Subic Bay Parking, 90 kilometers bike course heading towards SBECC where the 21 km run will start passing through the New Container Terminal and heads back to the SBECC for the finish line.

“Mas lisud ang rota didto sa Subic Bay kay puro uphill (The Subic Bay route is much harder considering a lot of uphill),” Villocino said, adding that his only aim is to finish and reaching the podium will just be a bonus.

He also said participants are expected from Australia, America, Singapore, and China.

The 27-year-old triathlete dedicates his race to his 11-month-old son Xavier Nyx.
