Bata, Singcang to dispute Group A leadership today

WHICH team will have the advantage in Bracket A will be known today when league-leading Bata and Singcang split ways when they tangle at 4:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the 9th Mayor's Cup at the Bacolod Public Plaza.

Rain or shine, the show must go on as Bays Center stands as reserve venue in case it pours down. The winner of the match will move to 3-0, the loser 2-1, but still has a chance to land in the top two in its group for the semifinal.

Bata has survived Barangay 8 with a close 58-55 win while Singcang prevailed, 68-53 over Handumanan on May 29. Two days later both scored a blowout with Bata stomping Handumanan, 92-66, while Singcang dominated Taculing, 96-63.

Other games Friday pit Barangay 8 and Taculing at 6 p.m. and Mandalagan against Handumanan at 7:30 p.m. Barangay 8 and Mandalagan are tied at 1-1 while Taculing and Handumanan are 0-2 and need to score.

On Sunday, "B" teams Barangays 35 and 10 face off at 4:30 p.m. followed by Paglaum and Estefania. Barangay 19 and Tangub square off last at 7:30 p.m.

In Bracket B, Barangay 19 is on top at 2-0 beating Barangay 10, 60-53 and nipping Paglaum of Mansilingan, 74-72. Both losers, Estefania and Barangay 35 are on the same boat at 1-1, and all have chances to make the top two spots.

Tangub is 0-2 after losing in a controversial match to Paglaum, 81-82, and outscored 86-94 by Barangay 35 of Maui Huelar. Coach Elmo Quiatchon must win all its remaining games to at least get a tie for the second spot.

Thursday's games saw Estefania-Barangay 19 duel; Barangay 10 and Tangub and Paglaum and Barangay 35 in Bracket B.
