School marks Garbo sa Sugbo 2017

JANUARY is one of the memorable times of the Marie Ernestine School (MES) north campus’s academic year as this is the time that the school celebrates the Cebuano way of life.

With this year’s theme, Garbo sa Sugbo, the Buwan sa Sugboanon showcased the spirit that continues to instill pride among Cebuanos all over the world.

The school invited some Cebuano personalities who inspired the students with their talks and presence. These include Sam Costanilla, a writer and television personality; Cebuano artist and architect Fred Galan, whose paintings were exhibited in school; and Dr. Ingrid Sala- Santamaria, a pianist.

Before the culmination day was held last Jan. 27, some activities like tigmo (riddle), basabalak (poetry reading), drawing and painting contest, and mask-making contest were held.

Apart from the Sinulog and other Cebuano dances, Cebuano delicacies were also featured during the culmination activity. Three pigs were roasted (lechon baboy) in the school for everyone to see. The students also had fun taking selfies with the lechon baboy.

The winners were awarded as well during the event by school founder Dr. Marie Ernestine D. Fajatin, Rosette J. Dizon, Costanilla and Galan.

The winners for the mask-making contest were Princess Lyka Reales, Jehanna Marie Cabatingan, Jillian Stacey Luna, Samantha Consulta, Marie Ernestine Dominice F. Pegarido, John Gil Luna, Julia Weigel, Joshua Ardiente, John Cylle Dignos and Samantha Alyssa Caballes.
