TIME tests many things. Being an outstanding student has evolved to encompass achievements not only in academics, but in leadership, community service, and personal integrity.
This is what makes The Outstanding Students Awards, or more popularly known as Thos Awards, pretty unique.
For 48 years now, Thos awards, organized by JCI Bacolod Inc., has been taking on the challenge of inspiring students from high school and college to excel holistically, creating a balance in all aspects of their lives.
As lifestyle changes, technological innovations, and globalization put more competitive pressure on many youths, Thos program aims to bring together mindful students from hundreds of educational institutions all over Negros Island region in the spirit of convergence. For every batch, a network of young active citizens materializes. Relationships thrive even beyond the awarding ceremonies.
Last February 11, Thos Awards Class 2017 went onstage at the event center of The District North Point Ayala Malls in Talisay City for the grand awarding ceremonies.
They were graced with the presence of keynote speaker, Provincial Supervising Tourism Operations officer Cristine Mansinares, who herself was a Thos alumna and former member of JCI Bacolod Inc.
Mansinares’ message reminded the students of the importance of taking on worthwhile advocacies in life.
Philippine Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara also gifted the students with his presence and inspirational message as he shared his mission of helping the youth gain more access to education.
As the program journeys forward in anticipation of its 50th anniversary, it calls on its alumni who continue to embody the principles of Thos to come together in leading a celebration of youth excellence.
