Fire razes Board Member Zayco’s sugarcane plantation

TWO sugarcane plantations at Sitio Katilingan, Barangay Orong in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental were razed by fire Tuesday with an estimated P880,000 worth of damage.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said the fire reportedly started from the sugarcane plantation owned by Sixth District Board Member Pedro Zayco around 10 a.m.

It spread to the adjacent plantation owned by Victoriano Sola Jr.

Sola’s six-hectare sugarcane plantation incurred a damage of about P800,000 while half of Zayco’s plantation was also burned with a damage amounting to P80,000.

Both plantations were believed to be burned by an unidentified man, Santos said.

The Bureau of Fire Protection in Kabankalan City declared fire out around 1:10 p.m.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of fire.
