Utzurrum: Young sprites in theater and fashion

BABY Boomers of the ‘60s will not soon forget their favorite cartoon character in Peanuts by cartoonist Charles Schultz. Remember Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy and the gang?

Well, they will all come alive when the Vaudeville Theater Company presents You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. A 1967 broadway musical comedy with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner.

Venue is at the SM City Cebu Cinema One with playdates: (Gala) – Feb. 17, Friday at 7 p.m. and Feb. 18, Saturday at 7 p.m. For these two nights, free seating tickets are at P500 and reserved seats are at P800. Matinee (two days) Feb. 18, Saturday and Feb. 19, Sunday at 2 p.m. Free seating at P300 and reserved seats are at P500.

The new script features two new songs, funny dialogue and catchy orchestrations. Time of action is an average day in the life of Charlie B., spanning months from Valentine’s Day to Beethoven Day, to the baseball season, all mixed up with the lives of his friends.

Vaudeville Theater’s founder and artistic director Penelop Ong further adds that the play’s dance director is Vincent Paul Diez Gaton, while its music director is award-winning Cebuano songwriter Jude Gitamondoc.

Penny Ong, a Cebuana theater and performing arts enthusiast, with over 15 years experience in directing and teaching, founded Vaudeville in 2016 to provide local artists an avenue for artistic expression on stage. Through the company, she seeks to involve students and young professionals to eventually train them to present high-quality productions suitable for family audiences at affordable prices.

The company’s debut presentation is You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and will herald Penny’s 15th directorial project for which we’d like to wish her congratulations!

Now on its fifth year of presenting trendy and terrific Sinulog-based wear, Islands Souvenirs has done it again! With venue at The Northwing, SM City Cebu, Bling it on-Cut and Style went onstage this time partnering with Anthill Fabric Gallery, a social enterprise which supports Filipino weaving communities.

A huge crowd-drawer was the Pacifique collection of top fashion icon Cary Santiago, which had local and national beauty titlists as models. Our very own 2016 Miss Cebu, Gabrielle Raine Baljak wowed them all!

Other stunners on the ramp were local young entrepreneurs, Cebu’s most creative set, and ever-so-adorable pre-teens and toddlers who stole the show! Let the photos speak for themselves!
