CEBU City Councilor James Cuenco may defect from Team Rama to BOPK any time. Just give James time, his dad, former congressman Tony Cuenco, said yesterday on “Frankahay Ta” (dyCM radio). It must be for some cause, a “casus belli,” Tony said, which would justify or serve as pretext for the leaving.
Tony’s feud with Tomas is over, the retired lawmaker told “Frankahay” hosts, Attys. Frank Malilong Jr. and Ellie Espinoza. He’s now in good terms with Tomas, who used to publicly shame Tony over barangay captains Tony allegedly abandoned on election time.
SECOND TO GO?
With another Team Rama councilor -- ABC’s Councilor Philip Zafra, also rumored to defect -- BOPK may get two more allies. Tomas already has on his side, Dave Tumulak and Hanz Abella, who have been “behaving like de facto BOPKs” since they defected last August.
rA City Hall watcher doubts if Zafra would desert former mayor Mike Rama, long-time political buddy. But then anything can happen.
‘JOBSEEKERS’
Tony Cuenco and a politician who lost in the last election are two Cebuanos still expecting a position in the Duterte administration.
Tony hopes for an ambassador’s post or a seat in the Constitutional Commission. The foreign posting he talked about with Alan Peter Cayetano who may head DFA when the appointment ban for losers expires. Or he may run for a seat in the Con-Com, if one will be held.
Whatever, he’ll be active in government service -- at 81 this March 26 and after 25 years as congressman -- or, drum roll, in broadcast work.
The second wannabe from here hopes to join the Department of Justice. Maybe not as chief (Vitaliano Aguirre may survive, especially if he gets Sen. Leila de Lima jailed). But this Cebuano, a brilliant lawyer, will make a competent “Usec.”
