DSWD asks couples to adopt legally

In celebration of Adoption Consciousness Week, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 yesterday urged couples who want to adopt a child to apply in their office and know the procedures. DSWD has also established help desks in the Department of Interior and Local Government and Department of Health to address queries on legal adoption. 'Rebel' arrested for extortion; He preyed on 3

Police caught a 21-year-old man for allegedly extorting money from three persons, including two public officials, in Barangay Poblacion 3, Tuburan last Tuesday. The team led by Tuburan Police Chief Rolan Aliser caught Jeffrey Atilano, who told his victims that his rebel group need money for their projects in the mountain villages. But Aliser said that Atilano is not a member of a rebel group. Atilano’s victims were Cogon Barangay Councilor Dexter Aquino Clarete and Ademar Monterolla. Last Feb. 11, Atilano also duped Tabuelan Vice Mayor Raul Gerona.

Man to face case for raping mentally-ill girl

Police arrested a 55-year-old married man for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman who has a mind of a child in a village in Moalboal last Tuesday night. The team led by Chief Insp. Jose Rovic Villarin, the town police head, caught Jaime Quiapo Montana in his residence. Montana was caught after the victim told her parents about the incident. The suspect will face complaints for rape in relation to Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor.

Boy takes life after being told he's always late

A 15-year-old seventh grader hanged himself inside a shanty in a village in Tuburan last Tuesday afternoon. Before the body of Jimmy (real name withheld) was discovered past 4 p.m., the boy’s attention was called by his teacher for his tardiness. He went home past 12 p.m. to eat his lunch. His father then told him to feed their livestock before going back to school. Jimmy obliged. A neighbor, who passed by the shanty, later found the boy hanging with a rope around his neck. Jimmy was rushed to the town’s hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Married man killed, suspect escapes

A 32-year-old married man was shot to death in Barangay Poblacion, Ronda last Tuesday night. Police said victim Jonard Talledo Camilo, who was jobless, succumbed to gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body. Suspect Louie Blanco Languita, a resident of Barangay Malalay, fled after the incident. Investigators are looking into the possibility of a personal grudge as the motive behind the murder. The incident happened at 9 p.m. and was reported to the police 20 minutes later. The victim’s body was brought to a funeral home in the town.
