3 men die in Cadiz City trike-truck collision

THREE men died after a tricycle and a truck collided with each other at Sitio Minabuno, Barangay Cabahug in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Monday.

Police identified the fatalities as tricycle driver Noel Berden, and passengers Loren Ret Maghapan, and Tilo Cordero, all three were 21 years old and residents of Barangay Bonifacio.

Superintendent Edel Jose Manzano, chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said the truck loaded with scrap metals took the lane of the tricycle that caused the collision around 11:30 p.m.

The truck was driven by Renato Manalo, 38, of Toboso town, who voluntarily surrendered to the police.

He was released from police custody Tuesday after the victims’ families failed to file charges against him within the reglementary period.

Manalo was released around 6 p.m., Manzano said, adding that there is an ongoing negotiation between both parties.

In another development, a motorcycle driver died after he hit a passenger jeepney along the national highway of Barangay Tandayag in Amlan, Negros Oriental on Sunday.

Police identified the fatality as Jose Anthony Alcantara, 40, of Barangay Polo, Tanjay City.

Investigation showed that Alcantara hit the rear of the jeepney driven by Wilmar Pantillano, 22, of Santa Agueda, Pamplona town, around 6:20 p.m.

Alcantara sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
