Comelec notes low registration of voters

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Occidental noted a low number of registrants for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council) elections in October this year.

Provincial Elections Supervisor Jessie Suarez said various election offices in the province have low registration turnout.

“We have a very slow registration of voters. There’s a slow reception,” Suarez said as he urged would-be voters to register.

He also said satellite offices were set up in barangays and schools.

The registration period will run until April 29. They Comelec offices are open on weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

From November 7 to December 30, 2016, the province has 10,241 new registrants, records at the Comelec provincial office showed.

Suarez said they are still consolidating the data from various poll offices.

Negros Occidental has more than 1.6 million voters.
