No power shortage this summer: DLPC

THE Davao Light and Power Corporation assured that there will be no power shortage this coming summer season.

"We do not see power shortage situation to occur during the summer months compared to 2016, and few years before that we experience acute power shortages. In 2017, we do not see rotational brownouts to occur in the franchise areas,” said Rossano Luga.

He added that the supply of power is sufficient to meet the 371 MW peak demand of their franchise area Luga also said electricity demand within the franchise area in the past week has been below the maximum peak demand due to the cool weather.

Luga said that the National Power Corporation (NPC), Therma South Inc. (TSI), Southern Philippines Power Corporation (SPPC), Therma Marina Inc., Hedcor Sibulan, and Hedcor Talomo provides power more than the current demand. Luga also explained that power interruptions experienced last Sunday, February 2, 2017 were due to the Amihan wind.

“Upon survey, tree branches that touched the power lines has been the major cause of the power interruptions,” he said.

Luga also urged the consumers’ cooperation for to allow the trimming of their tress and to not plant trees near or under power lines.

“The company has a trimming crew that goes around its franchise to check and respond to vegetation concerns near its power lines,” Luga said.
