Barangay Bata U12 chessfest opens February 18

The 7th Barangay Bata chess tournament 2017 starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 18, at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Gym in Bata, Bacolod City.

Supported by the Barangay Bata Council headed by village chief Angelito Abaring, the tournament will feature Under 12 participants and an inter-purok category for Bata residents.

Councilman Roderick Gregas, chairman of committee of sports, said they will focus on the development of their chess talents in the purok level in preparation for the upcoming second leg Mayor’s Cup inter-barangay chessfest.

The tournament is open to players from Bacolod and nearby cities of Negros Occidental.

Bata finished third place in the first leg of the 1st Inter-Barangay Mayor’s Cup.

Top three winners in the U12 category will receive cash prizes and trophies. The top 10 finishers in the inter-purok division will also be given cash prizes, trophies, and medals.

The two-day chess event guidelines and rules will be announced by supervising arbiter Philip Caudilla before the start of round one.

Each player is required to bring his own chess set and chess clock.

Registration fee is P200 for 12U and P100 for inter-purok.
