New traffic chief focuses on motorist discipline

THE new Davao City traffic chief vowed to impose discipline to address the traffic problems here.

Retired Superintendent Dionesio Abude said he aims to push for a smoother flow of the traffic in the city during his term as the officer-in-charge of the Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO).

"Gusto nako tutukan ang pag-impose ug discipline (I want to impose discipline)," Abude said in an interview with SunStar Davao.

Abude was appointed as the new CTTMO head starting Thursday.

He will oversee the effective coordination of all traffic management activities in the city; and conduct traffic direction and control for the safe and orderly movement of vehicles and pedestrian.

Abude said he sees this position a very challenging task with the rapid increase of motor vehicles in the city as well as the constructions being conducted by the Davao City Water District (DCWD) and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Abude was the station commander of the Talomo Police Precinct prior to his retirement. He also once headed the Davao City Police Heinous Crime Unit.

Former CTTMO chief Rhodelio Poliquit was given a new assignment.

He is now the head of the Sidewalk Demolition Unit, Drainage Maintenance Unit and operations of the Night Market at Roxas Avenue. (with a report from CIO)
