Council approves public safety plan

THE City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) has approved the Peace and Order and Public Safety (Pops) plan for 2017-2019 of Zamboanga City.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the approval of the Pops is required by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and intended to strengthen peace and order in all local government units amid the all-out war against illegal drugs and criminality.

Salazar, who chairs the CPOC, said Pops is the product of collaborative efforts of all sectors, specifically the police and military, and other law enforcement units and involves crime prevention programs consistent with the needs of the villages.

Salazar said the CPOC created a technical working group that worked on the plan which covers the review of the city’s strategic directions, peace and order public safety situation, critical policies, programs, projects, services and activities, funding requirement as well as implementation arrangements and actual implementation plan.

She said the Pops plan is the medium term plan of incumbent elected officials and basically makes the City Government compliant with all criteria in obtaining the seal of good housekeeping that include sound financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, business friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management and peace and order plan.

She said the Pops was approved by the CPOC in a meeting on Friday. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
