Itogon seek funding for flood control

ITOGON’S municipal council is seeking funds for the construction of flood control facilities along the Ambalanga, River in Poblacion through a resolution forwarded to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

The resolution, by Councilor Gerard Cornel, is requesting the President through Peter Paul Galvez, Chairman of National Risk Reduction and Management Council for funding of the project.

In the resolution, it was cited the municipality is prone to erosion and landslides during typhoon which inundate river systems in the area.

The Ambalanga River serves as the town’s water catchment basin during typhoons and strong rains which at present is fast becoming a tourist destination.

Construction of flood control system in the area, the resolution added, can help in the protection and improvement of the place into a conducive hub for tourists which will then boost the livelihood of the community

The resolution added Itogon cannot solely implement big projects due to financial constraints.

In the past years, pools at the 1300 level were washed out including a road and a bridge which affected the livelihood in the area.

Resort owners sought help from the municipal government to assist them in the restoration of the damaged areas.
