PIA to launch 3 Asean info kiosks

THE Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Davao is set to launch three information kiosks in Davao and Tagum City for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) 2017 on Wednesday, February 22.

Efren Elbanbuena, PIA-Davao director said the kiosk is set up to equip the public about the necessary information in line with the country’s hosting of the 50th Asean celebration.

The information kiosk will be installed at the hallway of the pre-departure area of the Davao International Airport and at Big8 Corporate Hotel and Robinsons Mall in Tagum City where the launching will be graced by PIA Director General Harold Clavite and PIA deputy director general Gelo Villar.

“As part of the public advocacy campaign of the Asean, the PIA is tasked to provide communication support by conducting series of public advocacy campaign,” Elbanbuena said.

Elbanbuena said this is only the start of their information drives and they have already planned to expand the information dissemination in different malls and hotels in the region by next month where they would place a stand that will allow the citizen to pick up information materials for free.

“We are still negotiating with one of our hotels and possibly we will negotiate also with SM that we are going to set up our Asean Information Kiosk,” he added.

The information materials will contain about the history of Asean, the priorities of Asean and its endeavors, its relevance to Mindanao and how it differs from Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area.

He said that the information to be given is not only limited to the Philippines as there are also other information from different countries that will be featured.

“We are trying to gather information in Indonesian Consulate to give us their information materials also,” he said.

To further boost their drive, they will also stage a briefing exclusively for its media partners this March to effectively introduce the significance of Asean and arm them with knowledge that will benefit them in their reportage.
